Tahklahk's Realm

A friend from work who knew I enjoyed photography recommended that I check out Tahklahk Lake near Mt. Adams. Over Memorial Day weekend in 2005 my daughters and I camped there, and this was the sunset the first night we arrived (the mountain was in the clouds most of the rest of the time). I spotted this location earlier in the day when we hiked around the lake. I returned at sunset, a bit disappointed because fishermen and their boats moving around the lake were preventing a glassy surface and reflection. Fortunately, as if on cue, they all headed for shore and pulled out of the water just in time for the sunset to begin.Just as the color really got going and I began to photograph, I heard splashing several feet away and looked down to find a cheerful lady washing her hands in the lake. With a sick feeling I saw the splash rush out into the lake and chop up the perfect reflection. Wonderfully, the water calmed right back down and I was able to take the photographs I had hoped for.
